Indianapolis Orphanages and Homes for Children
Indianapolis has had many institutions that worked with orphaned children or children who had been removed from their homes. Over the decades, these institutions have changed names, merged, or closed, and five were given burial spaces in Crown Hill.
In 2006, the Hearts Remembered Memorial was dedicated to remember the nearly 700 children buried in the various orphanage lots.
Designed by Joseph Miller, the memorial is comprised of three black granite stones with a 30-inch cut circle that houses a bronze sculpture of two children. The names of the 699 forgotten children are engraved on the front and back of the three stones.
