Give Your Time During Arbor Month

You and your group or company can spend some time with us to celebrate Arbor Month.

Here are a few things you can do, besides plant that sapling, for Arbor Month and Earth Week. Stewardship activities include:

  • Take a walk through our arboretum. Since it is widely regarded as “the single best place for tree lovers in the city,” it only feels right for Crown Hill to be an accredited arboretum. With more than 11,000 inventoried trees and 137 unique species, the Crown Hill Arboretum is an accredited Level II arboretum. Spend a morning, afternoon or the whole day wandering through our 555-acre site.
  • Story Time under a Tree (PreK-3rd) will be held at 11 a.m. on April 25. This free event is ideal for children pre-K–third grade, and all children must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited, so please RSVP at sertel@crownhill.org.
  • Tombstones and Spring Trees public walking tour, Saturday, April 27 2 p.m.–4 p.m. Tickets required. See the beauty of the amazing blooming spring trees of Crown Hill, and learn about their tombstone neighbors. On this tour, led by our staff Arborist and our Director of Historic Preservation, we will take a closer look at some of the amazing trees in the cemetery, and visitors will also learn about our unique tree stump tombstones and the meanings behind them. Enjoy nature and history at the same time! Led by our Arboretum Director and Director of Historic Preservation. Purchase tickets here.
  • Bird Watching Tour, Sunday, April 28 9–11 a.m. Tickets required. Come enjoy and learn about the various birds that call Crown Hill their home. Join local bird guide and advocate Wes Homoya for a morning stroll through the Crown Hill Cemetery grounds to see what feathered friends share the property with us. Wes will point out and share info about whatever birds we come across. Bring your binoculars if you have some; Wes will have a few extra pairs for those who might need them. Purchase tickets here.
  • You, your business, or organization can volunteer the week of April 22–28 to help in the arboretum. Volunteer opportunities include tree planting, mulching, invasive species removal, litter cleanup, and more. Contact our Arboretum Director at ctauscher@crownhill.org to schedule your group.
Join us on Sunday, April 28, for a guided bird watching tour.
