Arboretum Update – Link Garden

Visit Section 79, just south of the 38th Street underpass this spring to see the new project dedicated to Helen Link.

This project recognizes Helen Link (buried in Crown Hill Cemetery), a daffodil collector and hybridizer. She is well known in the world of daffodils, with 56 registered cultivars of daffodils, at least one named in her honor. She was a part of the Indiana Daffodil Society, as well as the American Daffodill Society, and one of the only known horticultural notables buried at Crown Hill.

In her honor, a beautiful, multi-seasonal garden has been planted in Section 79, just south of the 38th Street underpass. The garden will showcase Helen’s daffodils in the early spring and morph into a feature of native plants that bloom and support pollinators through the seasons. Dozens of bulbs have been planted for a spring 2027 debut.

Display gardens like this one are new to the grounds and will take an extra level of care and stewardship to establish, mature and be successful in the long term. We are grateful to the Indianapolis Garden Club for their support of this project, and the Indiana Daffodil Society for their help in bed preparation and their continued support in sourcing Helen’s introductions and other hybrids.

You can help support the Helen link garden as a volunteer.
