William Garrett

After leading the Shelbyville High School basketball team to the State Championship in 1947, Garrett went on to become the first Black to play basketball not only at Indiana University but in the Big Ten.
Then, after two years in the Army, followed by two more on the Harlem Globetrotters, he coached at Crispus Attucks, leading the team to the 1959 State Championship. In 2000, the new gym at Shelbyville High School was named in his honor. Indiana University has produced this video tribute:
