Volunteer of the Month – Charlotte Carmichael
Born in Indianapolis, our volunteer this month spends much of her time out at Crown Hill helping new volunteers learn tours, guiding school kids around the site, and researching the history of those buried in the cemetery. With a background in education, Ball State grad Charlotte Carmichael is right at home as she shares the site, its history, and unique stones.
Charlotte loves giving back to the community, and her position of docent gives her the opportunity to meet new people from around the state and country. As a lifelong learner, she also enjoys learning more about the cemetery, the city, and US history.
Crown Hill holds a special place in Charlotte’s heart. Since she was a teenager, Crown Hill has been a place of beauty, history, and places to walk near where many members of her family are buried.
For over 10 years, Charlotte has volunteered with us. Her help at the cemetery includes giving tours (both public and school field trips), training new docents to learn the Heritage Tour, and archival work. While not helping us, she also volunteers with Indiana Landmarks, keeping their site looking good as one of the garden volunteers. She also loves spending time with her family and three cats.
