How to Use the Nature Trail in the South Woods for Educators and Parents

Our Nature Trail, located in the South Woods directly across from the Waiting Station at 3402 Boulevard Place, offers a valuable outdoor learning space for students and families. The trailhead is located behind the Sentry House and is regularly used by both students and adults for exploration and discovery.

The trail provides opportunities for hands-on, experiential learning that supports observation skills, environmental awareness and curiosity about the natural world. While walking the trail, students can participate in a Scavenger Hunt designed to help them identify both natural and human-made features, such as maple seeds, mushrooms and a permanent art sculpture.

Activities like scavenger hunts encourage students to slow down, look closely at their surroundings and make connections between classroom learning and real-world ecosystems. Educators and parents can use the trail to reinforce concepts in science, art and environmental stewardship while fostering respect for nature and outdoor spaces.

Students of all ages can get close to nature with Crown Hill Cemetery and Arboretum’s south woods trail.
Our south woods entrance is just south of the Waiting Station (34th and Boulevard Place), and educators can use it to connect students with nature and science.
