Nellie Simmons Meier
(1862-1944)
During her lifetime, Meier was so well-known throughout America and Europe that one need only write the name of her home, Tuckaway, on a letter, stick on a stamp, and she would receive it.
The names of those who sent her mail or came to her house read like a Who’s Who of 1920s and ’30s celebrities. Many of those letters would have included a palm print of the sender, for Nellie’s fame was based upon her ability to read palms. Some of those palm prints made their way into her book, Lion’s Paws, in which she described her technique and a character analysis of the person, and later were donated to the Library of Congress.
