Field of Valor
The Field of Valor memorial honors our community's veterans who serve for love of country and freedom in wartime and in peacetime. The Field of Valor military section located on the north grounds of Crown Hill Cemetery was dedicated on Veterans Day 2004. Jeffrey and Pamela Hallal keynoted the dedication and spoke to, The Honor & Truth of American Veterans. The Hallals are the parents of US Marine Deryk Hallal, who was killed in action in Iraq earlier that year.
On Veterans Day 2005 Congressman Mike Pence joined members of the Veterans Day Council of Indianapolis, veterans from all branches of the Armed Forces, families, friends, private donors, and corporate sponsors to dedicate the Eternal Flame and the Eagle Plaza at The Field of Valor Memorial. The Eternal Flame was the idea of Rachel H. Newman. Ms. Newman made a gift for the memorial in memory of Maurice W. Scearce who served in World War II. She made an additional gift to establish an endowment fund to care for the preservation of The Field of Valor Memorial to veterans.

The Field of Valor, like the National Cemetery on the grounds of Crown Hill, speaks to the noble tradition of service to country and like the National Cemetery will be a place where the community forever gathers to honor, remember, and learn. We invite you to visit often.
Jeff and Pam Hallal and the Navy Club of Indianapolis have established a scholarship in memory of Deryk Hallal for children of veterans.
The Deryk Hallal Scholarship In memory of loved ones, families and friends of veterans have planted trees and dedicated memorial benches in The Field of Valor to honor the patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice in times of war or peace.
Show me the manner in which a
Nation or community cares for its dead
and I will measure with mathematical exactness the tender mercies of its people, their respect for the laws of the land,
and their loyalty to high ideals.
William Ewart Gladstone (18091898)
British Prime Minister
